Food Review: Funky Monkey Snacks

Out shopping I came across these:

Funky Monkey Snacks in Purple Funk (freeze dried banana encrusted in Acai fruit powder) and Jivealime (freeze dried pineapple saturated with lime flavor). They also come in a couple more flavor options, a mix blend and a second banana option. They come in single serving packs that carry well in packs.

The Purple Funk is quite tasty – the banana pieces are small for easy snacking and have a good blend of crunch/crispiness. These I highly recommend trying. They are exotic enough for adults but not too weird for the kids. They are brace friendly as well, so munch away and get your potassium! This is a treat worth checking out.

Now though…the Jivealime didn’t quite go over like I hoped. The pieces are small wedges but very, very hard. Pineapple tends to get sharp edges when hard. The flavor/smell is nice but for munching it fails. I do think though that used in recipes it will work well – maybe in Thai or Caribbean inspired rice. It needs moisture to not rip up your mouth. As well, this snack is NOT dental work friendly. The flavor wins, just not the texture.

Find them in natural food grocery stores and online at Amazon: Funky Monkey Snacks Variety Pack, Freeze-Dried Fruit, 1-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12)
