The 16th Annual Winter Trails Day is coming up in just over a week – January 8th, 2011. There is what they call the “anchor sites” where due to larger crowds various snowshoe manufacturers (MSR, Atlas, Tubbs) and more show up. These sites are:
- Echo Lake – CO
- Estes Park – CO (Jan 15, 2011)
- Fort Snelling State Park – MN
- Kirkwood – CA
- Liberty Mountain – PA
- Mountaineers Snoqualmie Campus – WA
- Soldier Hollow – UT
- Weston Ski Track – MA
- White River Snow Park – OR
There are many other places (often ski resorts or outdoor stores) sponsoring a day, just with less fanfare. Check here for all sites in a number of states, ranging from Wa to WVA and beyond! If the state has a ski area you can expect to find one to attend.
I have gone to the one at Snoqualmie Pass, Wa before and it was an enjoyable trip. It is a cheap and easy way to get the family out for a few hours – and to try out new gear. Our local one has REI, OR and Marmot Mountain Works showing up as well!
