Food Finds: Colavita Products

Wandering through Cost Plus World Market this week I came across a line I hadn’t seen before – Colavita products imported from Italy. Cost Plus carries a number of the line, I picked up 4 to try. I have long wondered why marinated artichokes and olives hadn’t been put out in small containers that were not glass jars and were small portions. Well, hey, I got rewarded! The items in the line are marinated in a simple blend: item of choice, sunflower oil, extra virgin olive oil, white vinegar, spices and salt. Simple as can be and it lets the flavors shine through. If you have ever thought how great it would to have oil packed treats along for your meals, you need to check them out! Consider the calorie bonus as well – the sun-dried tomatoes contain 360 calories, 24 grams fat, 8 grams protein and 12 grams fiber. Not bad for 4 ounces weight. And the liquid is perfect for adding to your meal – you won’t need much else than a little Parmesan cheese (no need to carry oil – these have plenty!)

Each container is 4.23 ounces or 120 grams. They come in a slim plastic tub that is sealed on top, easily crushable after use. The items are sealed tightly but do not have a top lid – while it is very sturdy I would still carry it in a sandwich bag or in a cooking pot to be sure it didn’t get poked by a sharp corner of other gear.

Sun-dried Tomatoes:

Grilled Artichokes:

Grilled Eggplant:

Crushed Green Olives:

The Colavita website also carries:

Grilled Zucchini – This is one that would be utterly addicting on sammies or in wraps for a lunch.

Grilled Cipollini Onions – Mashed up into taters? Mixed into a rice dish? Oh delish!

Roasted Peppers – Y-U-M! Roasted red peppers go with so many meals.

And best of all you can order them through the company for those without a World Market nearby!
