It isn’t often I look in the packaged rice section, but I had needed a box of couscous, and Near East is my favorite brand. Sitting next to it was a Quinoa Blend in Rosemary & Olive Oil flavor. Looking at the ingredient list, I wondered if it would work with the boil and sit method, so I picked a box up. Using this method you only need to bring the ingredients to a boil, then let sit till “cooked”.
And yes, the answer is it will work. You do need to do it in a pot though, and insulate your pot. Follow the directions for water and oil, adding everything into your pot, then bringing to a rolling boil. Take off the heat, cover tightly and insulate, letting sit for 20 minutes or so. If you want it quicker, once it boils, turn the flame down and gently boil for 5 minutes, then, insulate and let rest for 10 minutes.
Either way you can have a quick and easy dinner for one or two, and it takes added in vegetables, cooked and dried lentils or pouched/canned fish and meats nicely.
Look near the Rice-a-Roni aisle in grocery stores.
