Gear Find: NYNE Mini Speaker

Fair warning: While not everyone enjoys the sounds of music in the wilds, sometimes it is a lot of fun. Just don’t annoy anyone else with Thrash Metal 5000 on 30 while hiking, OK? Well, if you must, at least have a wicked air guitar style….and hair to match.

What is tiny and packs a lot of sound? The nyne MINI speaker. If you camp or backpack and carry your smart phone, this can be a neat way to share sound – in your tent, around a campfire. Listen to music, or snuggle into sleeping bags and watch a movie together. While not super light at 9¾ ounces, it is also not heavy either. It is 5″ long and 2.5″ high. The outside is rubberized (no slip) and is water-resistant to splashes.

The battery is rechargeable, giving 10 hours of play time per charge. With a standard USB to mini USB cord, you can plug it in to charge, either at home, or if your car has a USB port, charge on the go (cord included). It operates on Bluetooth, with a range of up to 33 feet away from the speaker – but can also be connected with the included auxiliary cord, such as with MP3 players. It also functions as a hands-free speaker for phones, which if your car doesn’t have, this is a great option (in our state hands free is the law). Last but not least, it has a carry case with ‘biner, so you don’t lose it – or so you can hang the speaker above you.

Fun. Simple. I can tell you that we often have it out in our backyard while we lounge around.
