National Take a Hike Day Is Coming Soon

National Take a Hike Day is coming up soon, on November 17th, 2014. Just because it is in late fall is no reason to not get out for a hike! If I have learned anything from my youngest children, who are in an all-outdoor preschool this year, as long as one is prepared, it can still be any enjoyable outing. Cool air, that feels so clean from the fall rains and the temperature is right where I like it!

The fall basics are essential: Dry socks, waterproof boots, a waterproof jacket and pants (preferably ones that breathe), a warm hat and gloves…..and dry clothing in the car to change into after!

And most of all, make sure you take plenty of liquids – it is easy to forget to drink in cooler weather (we take hot drinks when snowshoeing for example!) and make sure you have plenty of dense, calorie-rich and high protein snacks to keep you fueled.

One doesn’t have to go far either – take the time to see what you have near where you live. It doesn’t have to be a long drive or even a long hike. There is beauty to be found in nearly anywhere. I take the boys often to the trails in our local arboretum, and see new things every time. They wear out energy, Momma gets time to breathe and relax.

LÄRABAR is a proud sponsor of National Take a Hike Day – and look what we have been having fun with! Bars, treats, new hiking socks? It felt like a fall shakedown for our packs 😉

LÄRABAR, the Original Fruit and Nut Bar™, is a gluten-free blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices, with some flavors including coconut oil, chocolate chips or other simple ingredients. The bars are made from whole foods and each indulgent flavor contains no more than nine ingredients, and at least ¼ cup of fruit or more. Each 1.6oz bar is non-GMO, gluten-free, Kosher and some are Fair Trade Certified. We’ve been sampling: Apple Pie, Banana Bread, Blueberry Muffin, Carrot Cake, Cherry Pie, Chocolate Chip Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Coconut Chew, Coconut Chocolate Chip, Coconut Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie, Lemon Bar, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Cookie, and Pecan Pie. A well stocked food bag I can tell you!

And we have been also sampling RENOLA – a grain-free, gluten-free mix of non-GMO fruits, nuts and seeds. RENOLA is in convenient, single-serve packets for on-the-go consumption. Cinnamon Nut, Cocoa Coconut and Berry, which of those are my favorite? The Berry is my favorite! One often thinks of “granola” being dry and crunchy, RENOLA is flavorful, great texture (crunchy, yet moist!) and easy to shake out. You can eat it like trail mix, or have it as a cereal.

You can get a 50 cent off coupon as well, if you’d love to try a new flavor!

LÄRABAR is sponsoring a giveaway for one winner, for a tasty treat filled box of LÄRABAR and RENOLA, to keep the lucky winners backpack nicely filled. 16 bars and RENOLA? This is a giveaway you’ll be craving!

To enter, visit LÄRABAR and RENOLA to pursue all the flavors and leave a comment below – tell us what is your favorite flavor of LÄRABAR, if you have tried them, or what flavor you’d love to try. Would you take them hiking with you? Will you get out on National Take A Hike Day?

We will pick the winner using on Monday November 9th, 2014. Winner must live in the United States and be 18+, and will be notified via email.

FTC Disclosure: Thanks to LÄRABAR for sponsoring today’s post and hopefully inspiring everyone to get outside this coming November 17th!

  1. I love Larabar, my favorite is probably cherry pie – I’ve had most of the flavors and they are all good. I’ve not tried coconut cream pie though – I need to hunt that down. Renola is new to me as well.

  2. I would like to try the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor. I have hiked with the bars before and find that they hold up pretty well in a pack. I will probably do some urban hiking on the 17th since we will be in Seattle for a mini vacation that weekend.

  3. never tried your bars, so perhaps i’d male the switch from another product. all these bars are great for backpacking 🙂 if i win, i’ll go backing with them to get to try it in nature.

  4. I love the Apple Pie and Blueberry Muffin bars. There are several flavors on the website I’ve never seen but I’d loved to try like the seasonal pumpkin pie and snickerdoodle. I never knew they had a cappuccino flavor. I’d try it but I don’t know if I’d like it. I’m not a fan of most coffee flavored things, just coffee.

The Cinnamon Nut Renola looks like my type of snack!

I won’t be hiking but the trails in our area are hoping with people everyday!

  5. I haven’t tried Larabars yet, but the Key Lime Pie flavor sounds like something to which I could easily become addicted. Renola would be a great addition to my trail food menu as well. My dog and I will probably find ourselves out hiking in our local state park on the 17th.

  6. My favorite flavor of LÄRABAR is the seasonal Snickerdoodle! I absolutely love that flavor! ,I have definately tried them before (Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie, Peanut Butter Cookie, Pecan Pie, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Coconut Chew, Cherry Pie, Cappucino, and more!!!!) One flavor I want to try is Blueberry. Pumpkin Pie, too! I would surely take them hiking with me! I might go on National Take A Hike Day or any time that week!!

  7. I would love to try the pecan pie. I have never actually tried a LARABAR. I’ve actually only made versions of them myself at home due to the cost. So, I would love to try them!

  8. I haven’t tried either of these, but they sound intriguing, especially the coconut cream pie. I’ll check for them on my trip to winco tomorrow. I hope we get out sometime in november for a final hike before skiing season. My favorite ever late November hike was years ago in Yellowstone, the morning after a huge blizzard. Mystic Falls was forming ice, the trail was buried under new deep powdery snow, and there were bull elk lazing around, exhausted from their recent rut activities. Nobody else around in that weather. It was pretty great.

  9. My favourite flavour of Larabar is currently Coconut Cream Pie, but I’d love to try the Banana Bread or Blueberry Muffin!

  10. I love Larabars! My favorites are Peanut Butter & Jelly and Coconut Cream Pie! I would love to try Renola Cinnamon Nut!

  11. I’ve never tried these bars, but they sound amazing! And it just so happens I will be accompanying my li’l Girl Scout on a troop-sponsored nature hike that day. Would love to try any of these flavors for the hike!

  12. So many Larabar flavors I haven’t tried! Peanut butter chocolate chip is one I have tried and I love it. Get out there and get some…nature and Larabar of course.

  13. I’ve tried quite a few flavors of Larabar but I’ve only just learned that they have seasonal flavors! I absolutely NEED to try the gingerbread…
