PCT 2004: Snoqualmie Pass To Gravel Lake

In 2004 Ford and I did an overnighter on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), heading North from Snoqualmie Pass to Ridge and Gravel Lakes. I had been to Kendall Katwalk in 2003, but had not gone beyond it.

A few friends also joined us.

On the way to Kendall Katwalk, Mt. Rainier rises high above the trees that block a view of Snoqualmie Pass.

Looking down at Ridge Lake, heading North. The view in the distance was a siren call for me.

We camped in the basin of Gravel Lake, which sits below the trail.

Home sweet home. I loved that tiny REI tent I had then – I had found it for $7 new at a REI garage sale. At the time both Ford and I could fit in it, even though it was technically a one man tent.

It was a wonderful lake to camp at.

Ford was 6½ years old that trip and in First grade. As often, he was the only kid on the trip. Where I went, so did he.

When he was little, he was a strong hiker though, and could do adult miles.
